10 Predictions for 2007 That You Must Read
- Decentralization recompiled via aggregation- 2005 and 2006 were about decentralization and building up communities. Digg for news, flickr for photos, youtube for videos. Your digital life is fragmented. 2007 will work on bringing it together with a social twist
- The Year of HD- I fully believe that HDTVs have gotten cheap enough that we will see a large scale adoption of HD content. HD-DVD will win the war against blu-ray hands down. itunes will start to offer HD content.
- YouTube is the Killer App for iTV- I’ve said this all along since the youtube acquisition. iTV will bring youtube to the living room, and allow google to monetize on video advertising. Chad Hurley will be on stage for the iTV announcement. (Going out on a limb there, but I’ve got ESP aka insider information aka maybe I’m just causing a stir)
- MSFT wins the digital living room- got rid of my wii (topic of another post) for a 360. Best decision I’ve ever made. This thing is amazing, winning the console wars, and truly a great investment. Yes, you are hearing me right: MSFT will whoop Apple in the digital living room. 299 for itv with no video gaming or extra added features vs. 399 for everything you could want (okay okay, more than 20 gb)
- SAAS Takes on a New Lifeform- A lot of the innovation you will have seen coming from the consumer space will shift over into the enterprise and business application space. Maybe this is me, thinking Publictivity’s approach is common thinking.
- IPOs come Back, Acquisitions Slow Down, and Tons of Web 2.0 “Me Toos” Die- companies like netsuite will IPO. Maybe facebook will have their act together and get there too. Acquisitons will slow down by both Yahoo and Google, with MSFT making a few key acquisitions. the me too startups will die out. that means the un-needed bookmarking, social networking, and video startups will run out of funding and passion. Differentiated startups need not apply.
- Widgets- Everyone’s saying it, and I’ll agree. widgets will grow.
- Online OS Becomes More Visible- The makings of the Online OS will become more visible. Nothing concrete by any means, but we’ll finally have an idea of what an online os will be.
- Public Relations Begins To Have a Branch That Seriously Considers social media- It’s not just something PR firms add to tell their clients. It actually means something, and receives proper execution. PR firms in mass use publictivity to execute (shameless plug)
- Wikipedia Starts to Pwn Google- Answer this question: How many times lately have you skipped going to google or yahoo, and just typed the information or subject you were looking for into wikipedia? Okay, now say out loud Prediction Number 10.
- Bonus- Noah finally gets a burrito and does extremely well with communitynext.
